No, there is no bait or attractant. They is only super sticky glue on each side. This means they have no odor and are safe to use anywhere. Note that if you use them outside it is possible you could trap non target species, so check regularly. Which species of insect do they trap? They will trap any small insects, though they work best for fungus gnats found in potted house plants. To trap fruit flies, make sure to place the traps in a cup containing vinegar and a drop of soap, to attract the fruit flies. Where is the best location to place the traps? To manage potted plant infestations (fungus gnats, white flies, thrips etc) place in the soil, or hang from the plant using the included ties. For other infestations, place them where you see the highest density of flies. How do you place the traps without getting glue on your fingers? The bottom triangle part of the trap is not sticky, so you can hold that part as you remove the paper from the sticky part above. Once the paper is removed, continue to hold the triangle as you either push it into the soil or hang the trap via a tie. How to I remove the glue from skin/hair/fur/glass? Slowly pull the trap away, then dab the effected area with oil-soaked cotton balls (vegetable, olive, baby oil) until the glue is dissolved. This may take a few minutes. Then run with a soft, dry cloth. Finally wash with soap and water.
